Identity theft is not a new subject. It has been occurring for centuries in one form or another. What is new is the ease in which it is committed, the staggering numbers of victims and amount of loss. To combat this new form of identity theft many statutes have been written. These statutes have been designed to provide effective tools for prosecutors to use in their fight against identity theft. Many of the statutes originated from a specific case or cases that indicated a need for new legislation.
